A Few Unusual Basket and Flower Giving Days ----------

It won't surprise you to hear that I think that gift baskets or bouquets are ideal for every gift giving time. There are so many kinds of gift baskets that I can find one to fit everyone's taste and personality.

Of course, we all enjoy giving at all the obvious times: Christmas, Easter, New Years, Chanukah, Weddings, Anniversaries and Birthdays.

Maybe there are other times that some of us don't even think about:

* For example, Memorial Day is a great time to remember the recent death of a friend's loved one by sending a gift basket.  Or you may want to send a nice flower arrangement to the departed's place of worship.

* In fact, any three day weekend holiday is a good excuse to give something thoughtful.  July 4th, Labor Day, etc.  If someone you know has invited you to a cookout, why not send them some professionally prepared appetizers?  Or...a decorative bouquet or plant?

* Retirement.  Let the boss provide the gold watch or the clock that has to be dusted.  Provide some party food, and maybe they'll invite you to come share it.  Or order some for yourself and help them celebrate at your home.

* For a funeral, instead or in addition to a thoughtful gift of flowers at the time of the service, wait a month to send something to let the family know you're thinking of them. And don't forget to call every once in a while, too. Write it on your calendar so it doesn't slip your mind.

* A lovely plant gift makes a wonderful traditional housewarming gift. On the other hand, if they are still in the process of putting things away and discarding boxes, take them some gourmet, easily prepared food. After all, they probably don't have much time to cook, even if they can find their cookware !

* Many of us get a touch of cabin fever during the winter months. Send a loved one a fresh fruit basket or some beautiful yellow flowers to brighten those grey days.

* Welcome back from the honeymoon.  Some couples experience a bit of a letdown after the honeymoon.  Turn it into a happy time by sending them some prepared gourmet meals.

When you're unexpectedly thoughtful to someone...just because...it's more likely to truly brighten their day. I'll bet it will put a smile on your face, too.
