Just last week I was scanning through a piece in FT and found about this thing I had never heard of before called a skype phone.These two are now loaded beyond their craziest dreams because of selling their brainwave to one of the premier sites on the web,e bay.What am I talking about.A lot of people call it voip.It is hardly a novel concept telephoning a friend over the www without having to pay for it.

The ramifications are obvious, the first being that if you can attach a video phone to skipe, you can talk and see just about anyone anywhere in the world.Saying that though it is not all plain sailing as a slow connection will be of no use to you.Great pictures are not guaranteed however if your connection is slow.

So I went on Ebay and guess what, they are flogging phones already due to skyp.I guess it's been around for about a year already but it's catching on fast..

The bigger commercial telecom firms are beginning to sell voice over internet protocol packages.The question on everyones tongues is will it last the distance.Will the world wide web spell the end for voice over ip.

You can be fairly sure that many start ups will flood the market in the hope of making a killing but it has an established foothold.Then inevitably the feds will come in and regulate it.Skype are charging to make phone calls to cell phones and local regular phones, and that's called skyping out,etc.

It looks like voice over interet protocol is also at the forefront of web video conferencing as well. Web video conferencing was a huge idea about ten years ago but then fell off the radar but now it is making a comeback.

We are also seeing a huge amount of people using audio and video on the web now that download speeds are that much quicker.Many people think video and audio will be a passing fad but all the evidence points in the other direction.

The next decade will be make or break for the world of voip and only the consumers will tell us whether the free skype download is worth shouting home about.The question remains will voip take over from the phone.
